Are You Ready To Run The Extra Mile?

7/19/2018

Running the extra mile and focusing on the mindset that helps you be aware of things is such an amazing tool that we can use in every daily situation. I have personally always pushed myself to run the extra mile and by this I mean that I always challenged myself to get uncomfortable, to go out of my comfort zone and into the space of the unknown. The unknown is scary sometimes but gives you the space to be creative and fearless, and in this perspective can be quite exciting. This effort to come out of one’s comfort zone takes an extra effort and this extra effort for me comes from setting ourselves up for success and that starts with creating a mindset of awareness, which I call self-awareness, because it is a mindset that allows us to actually become who we want to become.

For me mindset, or a strong mindset, is actually an inner force, an inner energy that allows us not to be dragged down or put down by our thoughts, emotions and feelings. Allow me to repeat this because I believe that it is very important and important to reinforce: Mindset, or a strong mindset, is a inner force or inner energy that allows us not to be dragged down or put down by our thoughts, feelings or emotions. Let me put this in a very specific example that happened to me the other day for instance. I set myself to wake up at 7 o’clock to go for my morning run, which then leads to the second thing on my schedule which is to create a great video for YouTube and IGTV and the other social media networks. Afterwards, I communicate to my clients or reply to comments on any of the posts I did the day before, and I focus on taking the steps towards completing my day and making my day an amazing experience, but on that day, and because I was really really tired, trying to recoup from a very strong week, with a lot of things happening, with a lot of communication with clients and other people, I was so very tired that I said to myself “you know, I don’t really feel like getting up so early today, and it is Sunday after all…”

Once again, in that moment, Mel Robbins @melrobbinslive and her 5 seconds rule came to my conscious mind and I told myself “you know, just go ahead, get up and make the most out of the day” but… I said to myself I really needed to rest and so I rested. When I woke up at around 9 o’clock (2 hours after my normal rhythm) I said to myself “Oh, you know what’s going to happen now? I do not feel like going for my morning run and doing everything else I said yes to…” In that moment, after “loosing” 2 hours of my precious time I realised the truth behind having a strong mindset. The truth is that nothing stops us from achieving what we set ourselves to just because something happened that is perceived as a negative event. The fact that I was left with negative emotions and feelings about not fulfilling my rhythm and not being able to wake up at the time that I set myself for, it didn’t stop me from fulfilling afterwards all my tasks and chores. This is what I mean by mindset.

The other day I saw a wonderful post on Instagram by Rachele Brooke Smith @rbrookesmith about resilience, which is that energy that allows us to come out of trauma or come out of a strong challenging situation with ease, with our heads up and with confidence, and really being able to focus on our WHY, the reason WHY we want to do the things we do. The WHY is our fuel, our purpose and our innate motivation. The WHY only comes through with a strong mindset and, if you think about it, it is all about belief.

Sean Evans @seanseaevans has this amazing YouTube show called ‘Hot Ones’ where he invites celebrities to eat food with hot spicy sauces. This made me thing about the difference between someone that reacts well to spices and hot sauces and someone that doesn’t. What is the difference between the two? I believe it has to do with their mindsets, has to do with mental/psychologic preparation, has to do with how people can approach the same situation, how they deal with the same challenges and achieve different results.

This is what I would like to reinforce, that in the end a strong mindset is achieved first of all with believing that it is possible. Naveen Jain @naveenjainceo was interviewed by Lewis Howes @lewishowes and it was amazing how he always put himself in a position that he challenged himself and everyone else working with him. He was saying that if he expressed an idea that was deemed to be insane and completely crazy, that nobody thought would work or be able to be manifested, that only then it meant that he was on the right track. He believed in creating realities that were seemingly impossible to manifest, but that in his mind were possible to create. This is what I want you to think about today and start creating a mindset that allows you to reach your goals. By reaching your goals I don not mean in the future, in 10 or 15 years. If you want to achieve your goals, just like Naveen Jain envisioned going to the moon and colonising the moon and bringing minerals and other compounds from the moon and make it happen for a minor percentage of the initial calculated costs, then you need to start reinforcing your mindset today which helps your brain to manifest the reality that you envision.

I don not know if you know exactly how our brain works and of course, I’m not a neuroscientist but I love neuroscience. Basically everything happens with consistency, with persistency and with repetition, and so does the brain. The brain is made of neurons (which are the cells inside the brain) and the neurons communicate with each other by synapses and a group of synaptic connections between neurons is called a neural pathway. A neural pathway in the brain is a pathway that allows you to go from one thought to another, which then lead to an experience or a memory or something that you learned, such as a pattern, behavior or a belief system. The more you reinforce a belief system, the more the pathway in the brain get stronger and the stronger the pathway the more it is active and the easier it gets triggered.

What I want you to think about is that in order to create a mindset, in order to create a positive empowering mindset, you need to reinforce it and you need to actually change those believe systems, change the belief systems that allow you to get to an empowering situation. Substitute the limiting belief systems with empowering belief systems, that lead you to empowering situations, empowering inner feelings that allow you to feel good and empowered to create your dream reality. It is possible and the first step if to believe that IT IS POSSIBLE.
Picture
Whatever are the belief systems that you tell yourself that put you down, that don’t allow you to come through, that make you feel poor inside, make you feel weak, make you feel a sense of depression inside? Those are the mindsets, those are the thoughts, the belief systems that you want to substitute with good ones. And it starts, like Naveen Jain said, with believing it is possible by creating a sense of imagination inside yourself, inside your mind, that allows you to dream of something like this being able to be manifested in your life.

A big shout out to all these amazing people that I mentioned in this post, specially Rachele Brooks Smith. Resilience is an amazing thing that the more we practice, the more all these empowering aspects of life become a reality in our experience, the more they create positive results in our brain and in our whole body, thus supporting us to reach our goals.

The challenge for today has to do with this question: Do you want to run the extra mile? Do you want to put your mindset to actually achieve more? Do you believe it is possible? Be honest. And if your answer is “YES!!!” then start by writing down what you want to run the extra mile for, what is your WHY. Write it down and think about it, contemplate it, and then start imagining how it is possible for you to actually put that into practice and by doing this you start creating the inner momentum that allows you to reach those goals.

There is so much practice we ought to do in order to become self-aware of our own limiting belief systems, but everything starts with the first step!
